Verizon and ILMxLAB have released a brief VR experience linked to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Get ready for an immersive journey with Rogue One: Recon, the Star Wars video in 360 degrees.
As the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story approaches next month, Verizon and ILMxLAB have launched a brief VR experience tied to the anticipated film as a prequel that provides a 360-degree look into space from the perspective of a rebel X-wing pilot. This Star Wars video in 360 degrees, titled Rogue One: Recon, begins aboard the starfighter during a routine mission for the leader of the Rebel Alliance, Mon Mothma. After traveling with your partner through hyperspace, the action takes a sharp turn with the unexpected Imperial presence and an unfinished Death Star, leading to an intense battle against the Empire's TIE fighters.
The 360-degree effect lets you enjoy from inside the X-wing cockpit with its R2 unit in the back to the threatening figure of the Star Destroyer, among other details that any Star Wars fan will appreciate. While watching Rogue One: Recon from YouTube via browser or mobile doesn't fully achieve the 360-degree effect, using Samsung Gear VR goggles the immersive effect is infinitely superior.
In fact, this experience made its debut at Verizon stores that showcase Samsung Gear VR devices in the United States. The most striking thing is that Rogue One: Recon was conceived, written, and directed by John Knoll, creator of the story for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The film features a cast led by Felicity Jones (Jyn Erso), Diego Luna (Cassian Andor), Ben Mendelsohn (Director Orson Krennic), Donnie Yen (Chirrut Îmwe), Mads Mikkelsen (Galen Erso), Alan Tudyk (K-2SO), Jiang Wen (Baze Malbus), Forest Whitaker (Saw Gerrera), and Riz Ahmed (Bodhi Rook). Produced by Lucasfilm and directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be released on December 16, 2016.
