Many game masters try to reduce dice rolls to keep randomness from dominating their sessions, but sooner or later some conditions and rules demand them. At the same time, you will always be missing a specific die or won't have enough of another type. The good news is that an excellent app called RPG Simple Dice can solve any of these problems, offering virtual dice from d4 to d100, with support for extra modifiers and custom dice.

Take Fireball in the fifth edition of D&D: it deals 8d6 damage (or half for those who succeed on their Dexterity saving throw), with an extra 1d6 for each spell level above third. Why mention this? Because I have never had eight six-sided dice in my hands, and this case helps illustrate the difficulties beginner players may face.

The interface of RPG Simple Dice is divided into two tabs. The first is Tabletop, where the main dice appear: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, and d100. At the bottom of Tabletop we find two modifiers: one to specify the number of dice, and the other to add or subtract secondary values. A classic example is D&D's Magic Missile. Each dart deals 1d4+1 damage, and RPG Simple Dice lets us configure these attacks easily. The second tab is History, which records every single roll, a vital resource for clearing doubts and making correct calculations. But the story doesn't end there…

Need rare dice? RPG Simple Dice lets you create them. Another option is to present results naturally.

In the settings menu we find two more options. The first is Dice Bag, which lets us add custom dice. Did the game master allow a homebrew that uses a d7? You can create it in a couple of taps. The second option is Roll result sort, which presents the results for each die from highest to lowest, lowest to highest, or naturally. Personally, I recommend changing this value to “Natural”.
