In a first-person account published October 7, 2026, Ruben Circelli says he built Stagehand with Claude Opus 5.5 to manage display, audio and desktop tasks on his own Windows PC. Stagehand is a custom utility for his particular setup; Anthropic’s Claude app for Windows is a separate product.

A utility shaped around one PC setup

Circelli describes a system with an ultrawide monitor, a BenQ display, a receiver that Windows sometimes treated as a phantom display, and 7.1 surround sound. In that setup, the BenQ ran at 120 Hz, the receiver’s phantom display at 60 Hz and the ultrawide at 240 Hz.

The receiver’s display was set to 4K, Circelli says. Claude Opus 5.5 inspected connected devices and logs, then suggested 720p for that display and a hotkey to bring windows back to the cursor when they opened off-screen.

What Stagehand reportedly controls

Circelli says Stagehand can switch between display modes, including using the BenQ or ultrawide individually. Some modes disconnect the BenQ rather than simply turning it off. He says the arrangement addressed stuttering and G-Sync problems on his PC.

The utility also brings together audio profiles for headphones, full 7.1 surround and a pseudo-stereo setup for the other monitor position. Circelli says the profiles can check Dolby Atmos and microphone level, and can be linked to display modes.

Other reported controls include checking whether the taskbar’s auto-hide setting remains in place after a display change, moving windows back into view and selecting DisplayPort as the BenQ input. Stagehand can also open or close programs such as Wallpaper Engine when display modes change. Circelli says it replaced Audio Switcher, Peace and two pinned batch files in his setup.

Claude for Windows and Stagehand are different apps

Anthropic announced Claude Opus 5.5 on September 22, 2026, and said the model was available across platforms. Anthropic also lists a Claude desktop app for Windows. That is the official Claude app; Stagehand is the separate utility Circelli says he built for his own PC.
