After installing Windows 11 on an unsupported PC and seeing how easy it is to escape Microsoft's artificial limitations, news arrives through Rufus, our favorite tool for creating installation drives. Its latest beta now offers an option for “extended installations” of Windows 11, which lets us bypass TPM and Secure Boot, as well as the minimum RAM requirement.
Another classic: Microsoft says “you can't”, users prove otherwise. The masterminds at Redmond recommend going out to buy new equipment amid the semiconductor crisis and hardware availability (just search for news about containers stranded in Los Angeles to discover how serious the problem is), therefore, if you want Windows 11 now, most likely you will need to bypass its new requirements, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot.
Our article dedicated to the installation of Windows 11 on unsupported PCs explains precisely what you need to do to escape the restrictions. However, the people behind Rufus, the go-to tool for creating Windows installation drives (and various Linux flavors), have just released the second beta of build 3.16, which adds support for “extended installations” of Windows 11 What does that mean? You can pre-configure a Windows 11 image, bypassing TPM and Secure Boot automatically.
How to bypass TPM and Secure Boot on Windows 11 with Rufus
- Download the Windows 11 ISO image or use Rufus's download feature.
- In Image Options, select “Extended Windows 11 Installation”.
- Confirm you've selected the correct drive, and click Start.
- Wait.
One detail to keep in mind is that Rufus doesn't limit itself to bypass TPM and Secure Boot on Windows 11 but also overrides the RAM check. Windows 11 is supposed to work with a base of 4 GB, but if for some reason you want to experiment with less, you'll be able to do so using this modified image.
I imagine version 3.16 of Rufus will reach its final build very soon; however, we've had no issues running its beta. The extended installation of Windows 11 worked perfectly, without errors or warnings. What are you waiting for? Bypassing TPM and Secure Boot on Windows 11 has never been this easy, and all the heavy lifting is done by Rufus. Download a copy!
