Samsung’s security-update roster, observed October 9, 2026, lists Galaxy S23 models for monthly patches and the Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy S21 FE 5G for quarterly patches. That schedule tracks security fixes, not how many major Android or One UI upgrades a phone has left.
Which Galaxy phones are on Samsung’s current security schedule?
Samsung lists the Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra and S23 FE in its monthly security-update category. The Galaxy S22, S22+, S22 Ultra and Galaxy S21 FE 5G appear in the quarterly category.
| Galaxy model or family | Security-update cadence listed by Samsung |
| Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra and S23 FE | Monthly |
| Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra | Quarterly |
| Galaxy S21 FE 5G | Quarterly |
Samsung says its roster can change, and update timing can vary by market, network provider and model. Some carriers may also use quarterly delivery for models listed in a more frequent category.
Security patches and major Android upgrades are different
A security update delivers patches; a major OS upgrade changes the Android or One UI version. Samsung’s monthly and quarterly categories describe security-update cadence, not a count of major upgrades remaining.
That distinction matters when you’re checking what support a phone still receives. A place on the security roster tells you the cadence Samsung currently lists for patches. It does not, on its own, say whether the phone has another major Android version ahead. For help checking a device’s patch status, see our guide to checking Android security patches.
The reported One UI 9 outlook for Galaxy S23
A report published October 7, 2026, described One UI 9, based on Android 17, as the expected final major upgrade for the Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra and S23 FE. That is a reported outlook; Samsung’s roster separately places those models in its monthly security-update category.
A separate report on the One UI 9 rollout to Galaxy S25 phones in Europe concerns rollout timing, a different question from how many major upgrades are expected for the S23 family.
Samsung’s Galaxy S24 update commitment
Samsung committed the Galaxy S24 series to seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. The two figures measure different kinds of support, and the commitment applies specifically to the S24 series.
In January 2024, Samsung also described security support for selected Galaxy devices as extending up to seven years. That broader statement is model-dependent, not a seven-year promise for every Galaxy phone.
How to check for an available Galaxy update
On a US Galaxy phone, open Settings, choose Software update or System updates, then select Download and install. Samsung says Smart Switch for Windows or Mac may also offer an update when an eligible phone is connected. Menu labels and availability can vary by carrier and model.
You can find the installed software version under About phone and Software information.
