Samsung is reportedly exploring a second-generation pair of AI glasses with a built-in micro-display measuring 0.2 inches or less. The screen is intended for brief, practical information such as messages and navigation prompts, while the reported target window—conditional on display development and device verification—is the second half of 2027 or the first half of 2028.
A tiny display for glanceable information
The reported concept uses a 4-bit grayscale display, rather than a full-color smartphone-style screen. A four-bit grayscale system can represent 16 shades, making it suited to simple text, system icons and alerts rather than detailed video.
The planned uses include messages, notifications and navigation prompts. In other words, the display would put quick information in the wearer’s view without trying to reproduce a phone screen.
OLEDoS, LEDoS and the lens layout
Samsung is reportedly evaluating OLEDoS and LEDoS micro-display technologies. OLEDoS is OLED built on silicon; LEDoS uses LED technology on silicon. White OLEDoS has reportedly been favored as a potentially less expensive option that could be easier to manufacture at scale than a full-RGB micro-display.
The reported design has not settled on whether the display would sit in one lens or both. Either layout remains a possibility.
How the concept differs from Samsung’s first intelligent eyewear
Samsung and Google presented a first look at intelligent eyewear developed with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker on May 19, 2026. Samsung introduced that generation at Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22, describing camera-based features, voice interaction, translation, navigation and phone connectivity.
That first generation’s announced hardware includes a Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 platform. Samsung lists up to nine hours of operation on one charge under stated conditions, plus up to seven additional full charges from the case. Those figures describe the first-generation eyewear, not the reported display-equipped successor.
The successor’s reported interface would add glanceable visual information to an approach centered on voice, cameras and a connected phone. It would also remain primarily a smartphone companion: the phone would reportedly handle most of the processing and connectivity.
A possible 2027–2028 target
The reported arrival window runs from the second half of 2027 to the first half of 2028, subject to display development and device verification. That is a conditional target, not a scheduled release date.
