SCP Unity: The SCP Horror Game

Our weekly section dedicated to the strange and disturbing creatures of the SCP Foundation is barely the entry point to an addictive universe that for various reasons we can't stop exploring. Many readers told us they first came across it through the game SCP - Containment Breach released in 2012. Of course, nothing stops you from getting a copy of that classic, but if you're looking for something with a more modern touch, so to speak, all arrows point to SCP Unity.

You remember nothing of your previous life. Criminal, politician, journalist, a poor guy in the wrong place at the wrong time... it doesn't matter. All you know is that you're a Class D within the SCP Foundation. 'Disposable.' The best that can happen to you is that you end up dead, and fast. Alternatives? Pain. Torture. Slavery. Ending up as food for... 'something' that takes its time. Escape? I guess there's a remote possibility, as long as you survive what lurks in every hallway and room of that damn facility...

That gives us an idea of the beginning of SCP - Containment Breach, a game inspired by the SCP Foundation. It's free, open source, quite modest in terms of requirements, and absolutely terrifying. Feeling a bit brave? Then download those 300 megabytes and explore its horrors... but today I want to talk about something that could become a superior experience, if time and development help. I'm referring to SCP Unity.

SCP Unity began its adventure as a simple port that updated the graphics of the original, but over time it evolved by incorporating new content, backed by the visual improvements of the Unity engine. Now, that doesn't mean things are easier for our hypothetical escaping hero. In fact, warnings about two old 'friends', SCP-173 and SCP-106, aren't long in coming. Don't believe me? The latest update of SCP Unity brings back SCP-939, and as expected, includes other SCPs that aren't necessarily creepypasta. For example, SCP-330 is a bowl full of candy, which warns that you can only take two. If you disobey, well... let's say gluttony and greed are paid dearly.

The developer plans to add dozens of SCPs to the game. SCP Unity is on version 0.6.5 alpha (April 11), and the frequency of its updates is pretty good, thanks to Patreon collaborations. If you join that campaign, you can get builds before the rest of the mortals, and other exclusive material. Available on Windows and Linux, but the download is huge. Patience.
