What is ShadowCopyView?

ShadowCopyView is a program that lists the snapshots of your hard drive, created by the Volume Shadow Copy service. These snapshots contain previous versions of files and folders that you can open and save on your computer. This service is ideal for recovering files or folders that have been accidentally deleted by a user.

How ShadowCopyView works

Once you download the program from its official page, you'll see the simple and spartan interface typical of Nirsoft products. At the bottom you'll have a hard drive browser of your computer, while at the top you'll see the snapshots.

You also have a small top menu and icons to manipulate the platform. If you double-click on a snapshot, you'll get information about it, but if you right-click, you can copy or save it (or press F8). And yes, it's true that Windows offers an option that lets you see "previous versions", but this feature often omits some of those copies. ShadowCopyView shows them all and allows you to interact with them with administrator privileges, so it won't be difficult to access any file listed there.

The environment is a very simple tool to recover accidentally deleted files or folders and, as Nirsoft has accustomed us, the utility doesn't consume system resources. ShadowCopyView is a free program, portable, and available for Windows operating systems from Windows Vista onward.
