Shufflix: Random Episodes on Netflix, Like a Real Shuffle

The Netflix catalog can be one of the best things that has happened to us in life, or a labyrinth in which we get lost too often. Over time, apps and services emerged that help us share accounts or synchronize sessions, but not many act like the old shuffle button on MP3 players. The Shufflix portal tries to imitate that function, presenting a list of series based on your location, and suggesting random episodes on Netflix

Television lost a lot of traction as an entertainment medium, but the concept of zapping hasn't gone anywhere. It just changed platforms, and as I write these lines, millions of Netflix users are exploring their local catalogs without knowing what to watch. Logically, Netflix does its best to recommend and promote series (using things like video games and works of art), and several websites follow that same line. The rest is left to the famous “word of mouth”… but what happens when you don't want any of that? You don't want specific suggestions, nor waste time inside the catalog. Shufflix doesn't require accounts or registration. All you have to do is choose the country you are in (should be automatic via IP), click on one of the series, and see the recommended episode or ask for another from the system. Of course, the Netflix catalog is much broader, and if you want to receive suggestions about a series that doesn't appear at first, you can search for it in the top right corner. Another possibility is to ignore the geolocation parameter and request a “view all” but even with that option, Shufflix doesn't show more than 32 series at a time.

The only problem with Shufflix is that its function isn't fully compatible with some of the series it recommends. While there's no problem watching an isolated episode of Adventure Time, The IT Crowd, or even Friends. But it doesn't make much sense in more linear projects like Stranger Things or 13 Reasons Why. I imagine Shufflix will receive several updates in the future. The idea is good, but it needs to be polished a bit.
