Windows Firewall works very well and lets you perform several tasks, such as creating firewall rules (inbound and outbound) to allow connections and establishing connection security rules, among other features. But “simplewall” is a firewall that works in conjunction with Windows' native one and, thanks to its functions, will enhance your device's security.
With simplewall you can add any running program, file, and running process, and then give permission or block the connection.
How to use this free, open-source firewall program?
First, we want to remind you that before using any security program, we recommend creating a restore point or making a system backup.
First, you have to install or use the portable version of simplewall on your computer (it weighs less than 1 MB). When you run this security server, you will see the allowed or blocked programs listed in its interface.
To add other programs, running services, and Windows packages, right-click on any blank area of the utility's interface and click on “Add,” then choose among: File, process, package, or service.
The elements added to the platform interface will not be blocked. You will have to click the “Enable filtering” button to block the element and prevent it from accessing the connection (you can disable this filtering with a double click).
Other features you will find in simplewall: block telemetry and spying, view the list of predefined rules, user rules, remove some functions of allowed and blocked programs, among other functions.
This very good open-source firewall for Windows is a very good option to complement the Windows firewall. All under a very polished interface and with functions that are enabled or disabled with one or two clicks.
