On Oct. 26, Reuters reported that SK hynix was reviewing shareholder-return measures and planned to announce them alongside its third-quarter results on Oct. 28. A separate report said the company was considering a special dividend tied to gains from its Kioxia stake.
The reported Kioxia-linked dividend
Bloomberg and Reuters cited Dong-A Ilbo for a report that SK hynix was considering a special dividend of about KRW 16 trillion, roughly $12 billion. Bloomberg attributed to the same report a KRW 20 trillion gain on the Kioxia stake in the first half of 2026.
SK hynix invested about KRW 4 trillion in Kioxia in 2018 through a consortium led by Bain Capital, Reuters reported. Reuters also reported that the stake sale was completed early in 2026.

The approved buyback sets the baseline
SK hynix’s board approved a KRW 40 trillion share-repurchase and cancellation program on Aug. 19, 2026. The company estimated that amount would cover about 24.07 million shares, or 3.3% of the 730,492,365 shares then issued, based on the previous day’s closing price.
The planned repurchase window runs for about three months from Aug. 20, 2026, with acquired shares to be cancelled. SK hynix said it intended to speed up execution within that period. The company cited its view that its intrinsic value was not fully reflected in its share price and its stronger cash-generation capacity as reasons for the accelerated program.
For 2025–2027, SK hynix targets returning more than 50% of cumulative free cash flow (FCF), the cash generated after capital expenditures. The company said share repurchases and cancellations would operate alongside cash dividends.
SK hynix’s published dividend policy
SK hynix’s investor-relations policy lists a fixed annual dividend of KRW 1,500 per share for 2025–2027. Its dividend table records KRW 3,000 per share for 2025 and KRW 375 per share for the first quarter of 2026.
