Paint needs no introduction. In fact, Microsoft has never managed to completely retire it, and its classic version still exists as a standalone app in the official store. However, Paint's popularity gave rise to some very interesting clones, and one of the oldest we know at NeoTeo is Sketchpad. Its ease of use makes it attractive to users of all ages, but it also includes advanced features such as layer control and clipart injection.
Paint is a striking example of the expression “If it isn't broken, don't fix it”. Unfortunately, Microsoft often ignores that warning, and in this specific case it decided to replace the classic application with Paint 3D, only to discover the rejection of users, and finally send/remove both Paints to the store. Something similar happened with Movie Maker, which gave way to Clipchamp (and which continues to gather dust in our installations).
Returning to 'normal' Paint isn't complicated if we agree to use the Microsoft Store, but there is also an alternative in the form of online clones, compatible with HTML5 and JavaScript. Some are closer than others when it comes to the interface (JSPaint is the first that comes to mind), however, the Sketchpad project has found the exact point between being familiar and 'doing things differently' for Paint users.

Sketchpad's main functions are seven: Select, Crop, Pen, Star, Clipart, Fantasy Text, and Vector Fill. We can customize the exact size of the crop, define stroke, fill and thickness in the pen, reproduce dozens of objects besides stars (think spirals, triangles, etc.), inject hundreds of clipart designs, write and customize the appearance of text (font, color, justification, and more), and fill all elements on screen.
Add to this solid layer control, which helps us manipulate each object independently. The keyboard commands are in the three-dot menu, but basically we use Ctrl+[ and Ctrl+] to move elements.
