Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, stars of dozens of films in which they dealt out punches left and right, never made the leap to the video game industry. But that's about to change with Slaps and Beans, a Final Fight-style beat 'em up starring the iconic duo.
Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, also known as Carlo Pedersoli and Mario Girotti, are one of the greatest duos in cinema history, stars of dozens of movies in the 70s and 80s where they dispensed beatings left and right. Despite their success on the big screen, the Italian duo never had a video game until now, thanks to Slaps and Beans. This game can be played solo or in cooperative mode (highly recommended) and includes platforming elements and minigames, as you can see in the trailer below:
A Tribute to the Duo's Films
Trinity Team, the development studio, aims to pay homage to the most famous films of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, giving them the style of 80s beat 'em ups. But it's not all about landing punches to defeat enemies; sometimes you'll need to use the protagonists' specific abilities (like Terence's agility and Bud's strength) to overcome obstacles and advance the story. An interesting detail about Slaps and Beans is that, compared to classic fighting games, it will feature an advanced combat system to make the fight choreography as faithful as possible to the brawls of Bud and Terence in their films.
Minigames and Scenarios
Among the minigames you can unlock are the beer and hot dog eating contest, or stages aboard the buggy (sandbox). The story will take place across different settings, with levels in a Miami of the 80s, a tropical island, and the classic western.
Kickstarter and Release
Trinity Team ran a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds, and the generosity of fans paid off with $212,000, which the studio will use to develop the game.
Slaps and Beans is being developed by Trinity Team and will be available on Windows, Mac, and Linux starting December 15, 2017.
