The Web is full of tools for capturing images, whether from our desktop or a specific portion. However, Microsoft wants to demonstrate everything that Windows 10 is capable of, and that brings us to the doors of Snip, a new tool that allows us to capture and crop images, as well as add annotations, record audio, and share that content with anyone.
If when working on the computer you need to capture dozens of images per day, I imagine you already have a preferred solution for that task. Personally, my balance leans toward FastStone Capture, since besides being lightweight, it has never let me down. On the other hand, there are times when I simply press Print Screen and paste the content into an image editor. This allows me to prepare the image for use in an article, or do something different, like share it on a social network. The point is that several steps are required. One is used to them, but Microsoft came to the conclusion that capturing, modifying, and sharing images should be much simpler. Welcome to Snip.
Once executed, Snip floats at the top of the desktop and waits for the user to give a command. In essence, what it does is replace Print Screen, and once we choose the portion of the image we want to edit, Snip enables annotation tools to "draw" on the image, or add audio, thus creating a small MP4 video that will be stored on Microsoft's servers. This video can be played from there, shared via URL, or embedded on other sites.
Snip is in beta, which makes it carry some "details". I'm not sure what happened, but in one of my Windows 10 installations Snip never ran, and when sharing an image via email, the program tries to open the desktop version of Outlook, when it would be more logical to run the integrated mail app. Fortunately, Snip gives us the possibility to send feedback to Microsoft, an aspect that should help speed up its development.
