SoftBank said it executed its final $10 billion tranche in OpenAI on Oct. 1, 2026, Japan time, completing its previously announced $30 billion follow-on investment. A separate report put Nvidia’s final tranche at $10 billion, bringing the reported combined final investment by the two companies to $20 billion.
SoftBank completed its $30 billion commitment
The $10 billion payment was SoftBank’s third and final tranche of its follow-on investment in OpenAI. SoftBank said it funded the tranche with proceeds from foreign-currency-denominated senior notes.
The separate report of Nvidia’s $10 billion tranche is distinct from SoftBank’s own announcement of its payment. The reported figures put the two final contributions at $10 billion each.
The financing round OpenAI announced in February
On Feb. 27, 2026, OpenAI announced a $110 billion financing round: $50 billion from Amazon and $30 billion each from Nvidia and SoftBank. OpenAI gave the round a $730 billion pre-money valuation, its stated valuation before the financing.
SoftBank’s cumulative investment and ownership
After its final tranche, SoftBank reported a cumulative investment of $64.6 billion in OpenAI and an ownership interest of approximately 13%.
