A detail many users often overlook is the correct configuration of their screens. While some adjustments must inevitably respond to the environment they are in, the truth is that most of us expect the “Auto” button to solve everything, and that doesn't have to be the case. SoftMCCS is an advanced application that helps us know all the parameters available in a monitor and, if possible, modify them manually.
It looks very bright, it looks very dark, red seems pink, green is horrible, fonts appear distorted... the list goes on. There are many reasons why a monitor can look “bad”, but unless the failure of its hardware is very obvious, it is most likely that we are facing erroneous parameters in its configuration.
In the vast majority of cases, it is possible to correct them from the monitor, while in very isolated cases, what is needed is a dedicated driver from the manufacturer, with built-in color profiles and other secondary elements. More professional work environments should not speculate on these points and try to acquire a hardware-based calibrator to guarantee solid results, but whoever prefers a software method that controls (almost) all aspects of their monitor, might want to install SoftMCCS.
Extreme configuration of your screen
SoftMCCS is a development by EnTech Taiwan, a company known for its old PowerStrip, a program that we used in previous versions of Microsoft Windows to modify resolutions and refresh rates (or update, as some prefer). However, SoftMCCS goes much further. First, it asks the user to perform several tests that may or may not leave the monitor misconfigured, either with a very high gamma value, or a specially saturated color. Then, other aspects will be detected automatically, and once the tests are finished, all available parameters for SoftMCCS will be presented in its interface, so that the user modifies everything they need.
I think the ideal situation to use something like SoftMCCS is in front of those monitors that for some strange reason come with their configuration menu locked. I have seen more than one monitor like that, and personally it seems absurd to me. Hardware should adapt to the user, and not the other way around. The program's compatibility with all types of monitors, GPUs, and Windows operating systems is overwhelming: from Windows 95 onward. The latest version of SoftMCCS dates from January 29, 2020.
