Dano Brown is a first-generation nostalgic. One of those people who, like many of us, is hooked on memories and does everything he can to keep them alive. He's also a very talented artist with an insatiable curiosity.
According to his own words, after buying a series of Nintendo figures online and noticing that many shared the same molds as the G.I. Joe figures from his childhood, he thought that—maybe—it wouldn't be so hard to create his own collection the same way. It was just a matter of playing a bit at being Dr. Frankenstein.
In his own words, he explained the beginning of his project:
"After a lot of trial and error and some very helpful advice from the guy who sold me the figures that inspired me, I made my first doll. With my Photoshop skills I was able to make very convincing packaging for my toy. I did it for myself, but when I shared it on my social media it got an insane amount of interest. After that I was hooked. Now I'm trying to create every single action figure that I think deserves to exist but was never made." said Dano Brown on one occasion about his collection.
He's not the only one. There are thousands of people doing the same thing, creating all kinds of action figures from old molds and selling them on social media to the delight of collectors. Dano's collection is extensive and full of pop-culture references, as you can see in the images below and in his own store. That said, Dano's handmade action figures are not cheap — they range from $80 to $300, depending on the number of pieces and complexity. And yes, being a collector has its price.
