Sony’s next-generation PlayStation development is reportedly progressing as scheduled, and the company plans to make further preparation progress in the business year that begins in April 2027. The update, reported by Video Games Chronicle (VGC) on November 5, 2026, did not announce a PS6 release date.

What Sony said about PS6 development

VGC attributed the remarks to Sony CFO Lin Tao. He described development of the next-generation platform as progressing as scheduled and said Sony intended to make solid progress preparing it during the business year starting in April 2027. VGC also reported that Sony said it had aligned memory quantities with suppliers based on projected unit sales for that business year.

Treat April 2027 as the start of Sony’s planned preparation period, not as a PS6 release date.

PS5 sales alongside the update

VGC reported that Sony sold 2.6 million PS5 consoles in the three months ended September 30, 2026. The update put cumulative PS5 sales at 97.9 million consoles.
