Why Sony withdrew Android 17
Sony acknowledged that the decision falls short of its launch announcement of three Android OS upgrades and apologized. The company attributed the change to limitations related to the phone’s storage configuration, saying it could not offer an Android 17 experience it considered adequate.
What support Sony says remains
Sony says the Xperia 10 VI’s security-update commitment remains four years from the product’s launch. Security updates are separate from major Android-version upgrades. Sony also says the decision will not affect other Xperia models.
Sony has not announced compensation
Sony’s notice does not announce a refund, trade-in, discount or other compensation. In a Reddit discussion, Xperia owners called for trade-in offers, discounts or partial refunds; those are user requests, not Sony offers. Reddit discussion
