The volume control has always maintained a basic profile in Windows… until Windows 11 arrived and ruined it entirely. We have previously explored very effective replacements, among which the excellent EarTrumpet stands out, but if you need greater precision in the volume control of each device and application on the system, there is nothing better than SoundVolumeView, which comes from the ovens of the inexhaustible Nirsoft.
During the first days of March it was confirmed that Microsoft is working on a new volume control for Windows 11. The version available in Windows 10 is no example of excellence, but Redmond managed to present an even more frustrating variant. Fortunately, the software world responded with alternatives like EarTrumpet that works very well, but what happens if we need something even more advanced?
I mean a precise volume control, in which it is possible to change values point by point, through all detected elements on the computer, whether they are speakers, microphones, loop systems, applications or virtual connections. The best answer remains SoundVolumeView, another classic from Nirsoft that has just received a new update.
How to Precisely Control Volume with SoundVolumeView
As always, the software has no traditional installer, it is completely portable, and runs from a temporary folder. The simplest action within SoundVolumeView is to mute devices, which we can do by pressing F7 once we select them. F8 restores them to normal, but the most interesting thing is that SoundVolumeView allows us to create shortcuts as switches to mute and restore at will.
If that is not enough, Ctrl+1 and Ctrl+2 can lower and raise the volume in steps of 1 percent. Ctrl+3 and Ctrl+4 raise the steps to 5 percent, while Ctrl+5 and Ctrl+6 jump to 10 percent. The alternative is control by decibels, using Ctrl+7 and Ctrl+8. The size of each step depends on the type of device (for example, speakers change every 0.5 dB, but my microphone jumps by 2 dB).
Finally, SoundVolumeView enables the use of the mouse wheel as a volume adjustment with additional modifiers (Ctrl key, left button or middle button), the percentage of each step, and the channel. Don't hesitate to download a copy!
