Propaganda today seems completely out of control, but it's hardly a modern invention. If there's one thing we must credit propaganda with, it's its remarkable ability to adapt to new communication formats. Animated cartoons were no exception. As soon as the opportunity arose, world powers turned to them to push their agendas. In this article, we'll explore several examples produced in the Soviet Union.
Some of the videos below don't strictly qualify as "propaganda," but given their age, the political context of the era, the repetition of stereotypes, the lack of reliable translations (perhaps the weakest point), and the constant accusations of "Russophobia" in the comments, they end up in the same bucket. Others have incorrect dates, often more than a decade off from their actual release. That said, our priority is the quality of the animations. Beyond serious technical limitations and strange creative choices, they're really not that badly made...
