A Story of Terror in the Arizona Desert
Outlast 2 puts you in the shoes of Blake Langermann, a cameraman who works with his wife, Lynn. Both are journalists willing to take risks and investigate deeply to uncover stories that no one else would dare touch. Following a trail of clues that began with the murder of a pregnant woman known only as Jane Doe—a designation used for an unidentified female person—the investigation leads them miles into the Arizona desert. Unfortunately, Blake and Lynn are separated in a helicopter crash, and Blake must find his wife while traveling through a town inhabited by a sect that believes the end of days is coming.
Gameplay and Features
Just like its predecessors, Outlast 2 is a first-person survival horror with a single-player campaign. As Blake is a professional cameraman this time, the camera has better infrared, zoom, and even a microphone to detect distant sounds—something you will definitely need. The camera also has an inventory system that shows the amount of footage recorded. Still, you have to be careful because the camera batteries deplete when using night vision, but you will find spare batteries throughout the adventure.
It is also important to note that the cameraman wears glasses, which limit the player's vision if they fall off. Unfortunately, Blake is completely unable to fight and can only defend himself in scripted scenes; he can also hide, crouch, walk, run, jump, and climb like in the original Outlast. Along with the release of this new installment, Outlast Trinity will also be available for purchase—a collection that includes Outlast, Outlast Whistleblower, and Outlast 2; ideal for those players just getting into this series of horror games. Outlast 2 is being developed by Red Barrels and will be available on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One starting April 25, 2017.
