Nintendo released free version 1.2.0 of Star Fox for Nintendo Switch 2 on September 29, 2026. The update adds four-player split-screen, three Battle Mode stages and the option for players sharing a console to join random online matches as a team.

Three new stages and four-player split-screen

The update adds Katina, Sector X and Venom to Battle Mode, along with more battle items. Up to four players can share one Nintendo Switch 2 in split-screen, with one controller required for each player. Joy-Con 2 and original Joy-Con controllers can each be used individually in horizontal orientation.

Taking a shared-console team online

Players on one console can join random online matches together through split-screen. Nintendo requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership and a Nintendo Account for online features. Nintendo says version 1.2.0 is required to use the game’s internet features; automatic downloads depend on the console’s internet connection and the Software Auto-Updates setting.

The update also changes online Battle lobbies: they no longer disband when the host leaves.

Other changes in version 1.2.0

In Campaign, a confirmation prompt appears before a player abandons a run after a game over, and damage against certain bosses is easier to see. The update also adjusts specific Sector X and Bolse challenges, as well as a Training challenge involving tilt-control goalposts.

During full-screen play with a camera in GameChat, a participant’s camera video can appear in-game at certain moments. Nintendo says a separately sold USB camera is required and does not guarantee that every third-party USB camera will work.

The patch notes also list fixes for crashes and freezes, online Battle progression and score calculation, Arwing wing durability, and compatibility with third-party USB cameras.
