Space, the final frontier, is infinite. From one side to the other. That is why official Star Trek productions will never be enough to explore it, and that is why a band of fans, all professionals, decided to continue the voyages of the U.S.S. Enterprise beyond the last season of TOS (The Original Series). That is Star Trek Continues.
I don't know about you, but the last Star Trek movies seem pretty bad to me. The franchise has abandoned the original spirit of the series in favor of a more popcorn experience and less thoughtful. Being a Star Trek fan since I was very young, having loved every episode of every one of the series (especially TNG and DS9), I feel cheated. Luckily, there are people with much more talent and will than me, who have not resigned themselves to living off memories of old times and have gotten to work. And among the impressive quantity and variety of "fan series" that circulate the web, without a doubt, by far, Star Trek Continues is the best and most professional of all.
Continuation in the Spirit of the Original Series
Born from the depths of pages like Kickstarter, Star Trek Continues is a direct continuation of the last episode of the series, which ended in the third season. Everything, absolutely everything, is in accordance with the original series. The sets, the "texture" of the video, the ethical dilemmas, and even the performances emulate the original series of Kirk and Spock quite well. The plot of the episodes, for the greater delight of fans, continues stories from past seasons, many times even with the original actors! Such is the case of Pilgrim of Eternity, in which Michael Forest gets back into the skin of the almighty Apollo, who again tries to sow his whims across the galaxy.
A Professional Cast and Crew
The professional level of Star Trek Continues is no coincidence. At the helm of the project and playing Captain Kirk is Vic Mignogna, an actor who has lent his voice to series and video games such as Naruto Shippûden, Pokémon, World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor, and Attack on Titan, among many others; not to mention that he has also participated in fan series like Star Trek: Renegades and Star Trek: New Voyages. Christopher Doohan, the son of the very James Doohan, steps into the skin of the character that his father immortalized and makes a genuine Chief Engineer Scotty, with Scottish accent and all. Grant Imahara, the Asian from Mythbusters, makes an exceptional Sulu, as lovable as George Takei's.
Seven Episodes and Counting
With seven episodes under its belt (all great, but among which Pilgrim of Eternity, Lolani, and Fairest of Them All stand out), Star Trek Continues continues in constant production so that the release pace doesn't decline, all despite the delicate situation in which fan-made creations of the license find themselves. Remember that Star Trek Axanar (a movie that promised to be everything that the new ones never could) was practically canceled because of the misgivings of CBS and Paramount Pictures, which sued the production for copyright.
In short, if you are a die-hard trekkie, and not one of those who jumped on the bandwagon with the latest movies, you will LOVE the new adventures of the Enterprise crew, in their (this time, yes, we hope) five-year mission, exploring new unknown worlds, discovering new forms of life and new civilizations.
