If you've decided to start moving, we not only celebrate your decision but also want to recommend some tech solutions to monitor your progress. Previously we talked about Step Counter, one of the most important apps to turn your Android device into a step counter, but today we're adding StepsApp, which includes an advanced detection mode and several secondary options under its Pro edition, like personalized challenges and a palette for its interface.
"Go for a walk" is the most frequent, simplest, and cheapest recommendation. The hard part is getting started, and in general you don't need anything extra, but it's not a bad idea to look for a resource to measure your progress. Some prefer to count steps, others bet on measuring kilometers directly. More or less, the truth is that there are users who feel motivated when they see that counter grow on their phone. Are you one of them? Install a copy of the StepsApp step counter and find out.
StepsApp: Step counter for Android
The first step in StepsApp is to confirm some basic parameters about yourself, including height, weight, and year of birth. You can also specify metric or imperial system and set your step length, but you should start with automatic configuration.
Once you finish that, the app will ask for advanced configuration of its step counter, which requires activating the "keep awake" function and preventing StepsApp from being affected by battery optimizations. The goal is to get an accurate step count. The built-in sensors do a good job, but they are far from perfect. The developer emphasizes this point, so you shouldn't ignore it.
The rest of the secondary features are behind a paywall. StepsApp lets you set a basic daily step goal, but if you want to calculate time, distance in kilometers, or calories burned, you'll need to buy the Pro version at a reasonable ten dollars a year.
The app offers a 7-day trial; however, you need to set up a payment method on Google Play to activate it. Personally, I recommend waiting and testing StepsApp's performance for a couple of days. If you're not convinced, remember there are other alternatives for counting steps on Android, like Step Counter.
