To stop sharing your live location with someone in Google Maps, open Location sharing, select that person, and tap Stop. For a link share, use Location Sharing settings or Find Hub. Turning off the master Location Sharing setting only pauses existing shares, while Timeline manages location history.

Find active location shares

  1. Open Google Maps and tap your profile picture.
  2. Select Location sharing to review active shares.
  3. Choose the person whose access you want to end.

Stop an individual share

Watch a Spanish-language screen recording that follows the Google Maps profile menu to Location sharing, selects a contact, and taps Stop.

With the person’s share selected, tap Stop. This ends that individual share; it is the control to use when you want to stop sharing with that recipient.

To manage a link share, open Location Sharing settings or Find Hub, find the link share, and stop it there.

What the other controls do

Google’s master Location Sharing setting affects existing shares differently: switching it off pauses their real-time updates but does not delete them. Updates resume if you turn the setting back on.

Timeline is separate. It manages location history, not a live broadcast to another person. Turning off Timeline does not stop an active share; use Stop on the individual person or link instead.

Timed and open-ended sharing

A share can be set to expire after a chosen number of hours or remain open-ended until you stop it manually. For a short-term plan such as a meetup or trip, choose an expiration; an open-ended share can continue until you return and end it.
