Humans are all crazy, and the latest proof is an event organized via Facebook for the coming September 20, whose goal is to invade Area 51 to search for extraterrestrials. Of course, the event is nothing more than a joke, but news about small hotels being booked solid keeps accumulating. That means there are people determined to visit the place; however, the underlying question is: How could the Air Force react? This simulation based on ArmA 3 gives us an idea...
Regardless of how insane or absurd it might seem at first, if a plan hits the internet and goes viral, it’s likely to get out of hand. An example? Let’s see... remember Zack Danger Brown? This guy went to Kickstarter asking for ten dollars to make a potato salad. He received more than 55,000, and organized a full event full of salad (in the end, very few people attended, but those present said it was a very good experience).
Now, what’s next? The Area 51, or rather, the ‘assault’ on Area 51. Created by student and streamer Matty Roberts on June 27 on Facebook, the event “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us” seeks for participants to enter the military base to ‘see aliens’. But that’s not all: the official text adds that “if they run like Naruto, they can dodge bullets”. More than two million people said they plan to attend. Even if 0.5 percent keeps their promise, those 10,000 participants could collapse the region.
I’m not joking: The tiny town of Rachel in Nevada already has reservations for that entire weekend in September, but its official website warns that it does not provide basic services. There is no general store, nor fuel. While there are several ghost towns in the region, anyone thinking of going should seriously consider the option of camping.
The authorities are asking people not to go to the base (or they will be forced to respond), to only enjoy the stars at night, and to take precautions against the weather (the desert doesn’t negotiate). What did the Air Force say? “We will protect the country and its resources” What does the internet imagine? Something like this:
This assault on Area 51 simulation was published by the Banned Inc. channel on YouTube, dedicated mostly to the game ArmA 3. The video is as comical as the idea of entering the base in the first place, but it confirms (in a way) that if someone tries to cross the perimeter, they’ll end up as puree. Even with additional resources like trucks and helicopters, the ‘invaders’ have no chance. Not even the fact of running while dabbing or the use of hoverboards saves them.
In summary, I hope nobody gets hurt. Something tells me it will all end like an improvised camp, with people having barbecues, listening to music, drinking beer, and leaving a pile of trash at the place the next day.
