At the end of the month, the second season of Stranger Things premieres on Netflix, and expectations are high thanks to the show's nostalgic 80s vibe. To ease the wait, Netflix and BonusXP have released Stranger Things: The Game, the mobile game of the moment.

Stranger Things The Game

If you can't wait for the second season of Stranger Things, now you can ease the wait and enjoy Stranger Things: The Game, a new mobile game based on the series. It's available as a free download on the App Store and Google Play. With a retro pixel style reminiscent of classic SNES titles—the icon even looks like a cartridge—the story is loosely based on the first season of Stranger Things, where you start as Sheriff Hopper, exploring the Hawkins laboratory in search of the missing kids.

A loose interpretation of the series

In terms of plot, Stranger Things: The Game is a very loose interpretation of the series. The characters and locations are more or less the same, but the events are somewhat different. Once the kids are found, they become playable characters with special abilities that let you access more areas throughout the adventure. Lucas, for example, has his trusty slingshot to hit switches that are out of reach. There's also combat, as you'll have to fight your way through guards and wild animals, and puzzles to solve.

Touch controls and a season 2 preview

One of the great things about Stranger Things: The Game is that it was designed to be played with the touch screen directly, without the need to press virtual buttons. You move and interact with things simply by tapping the screen, and everything is quite intuitive, making it a fun and challenging game. If you complete the adventure, you'll be rewarded with a clip from the premiere episode of the second season, which will be released in full on Netflix on October 27, 2017. Developed by Netflix together with BonusXP, Stranger Things: The Game is available for free on iOS and Android.
