Reports on October 26, 2026, said Sweden’s Government Offices had restricted staff’s direct browser access to ChatGPT and Claude on work computers. Some employees retained access through a special AI-assistant platform developed by the Government Offices. The measure concerns workplace access, not public use of either service across Sweden.

NeoTeo previously covered the plan for the October 26 restriction.

What the restriction covers

The restriction applies to direct browser access to ChatGPT and Claude on Government Offices staff work computers. A limited number of employees can still use both services through the Government Offices’ internal assistant platform.

What the Swedish Transport Administration audit found

An internal audit at the Swedish Transport Administration identified risky use of about ten AI services earlier in 2026, Sveriges Radio reported. The audit raised two concerns: the sensitivity of information entered into open AI services and how staff handled AI-generated answers.

What’s reported about Copilot and other agencies

Euronews reported that Microsoft Copilot was an approved alternative covered by a security agreement with the Swedish Government and had passed a security evaluation. Sveriges Radio also reported that the Government Offices tightened Copilot’s security after a review. The Government Offices press service declined to describe the changes, citing security concerns.

Sveriges Radio reported that the Swedish Tax Agency and the National Board of Institutional Care had also restricted ChatGPT and Claude. The Swedish Enforcement Authority was considering the issue.
