On October 20, Expansión reported, citing unnamed market sources, that SWI Group had agreed to lease 13 MW of IT capacity at Templus’s existing data center in Alcalá de Henares, near Madrid, and plans to install Nvidia technology there. The reported target for adapting the facility and bringing the infrastructure into operation is April 2027.
What SWI’s reported arrangement covers
The 13 MW refers to contracted IT capacity at the Templus site, not the data center’s total capacity. Expansión says SWI plans to adapt the existing facility rather than build a new one from scratch. The capacity is aimed mainly at neocloud providers and hyperscalers seeking nearby AI computing resources.
Expansión estimates that buying and installing the chips could cost about €500 million, based on market standards for similar deals. The figure is an estimate for that equipment and installation, not a stated project budget.
Global Switch Madrid 2 is a separate project
Data Center Dynamics reports a separate project by Global Switch: Madrid 2, a planned 24,000-square-meter facility with 56 MW of capacity. It is expected to come online in 2029 and reach full capacity by 2032. That planned facility capacity has a different scope from the 13 MW of IT capacity reported for SWI at Templus.
