Many users prefer to manage their browsing sessions with a large number of open tabs. As the number grows, managing them becomes more complicated due to the limitations of each interface. Google Chrome is not exempt from this, but there is a small extension called Tabli that presents all open tabs in a simple menu, greatly simplifying their search and selection.
The common tab problem
Web browsers have reached a kind of "common design" that covers most needs, but when it comes to dealing with dozens of tabs, several cracks appear. Tabs are distributed horizontally, so they are tied to the width of our screen, and as we increase the number of tabs, the only thing the browser can do is reduce the size of each label. Anyone who masters the Ctrl+Tab shortcut to go forward and Ctrl+Shift+Tab to go backward probably won't have problems finding the tab they want. However, there is an alternative for those who feel more comfortable with the mouse: an extension called Tabli, compatible with Google Chrome.
How Tabli works
Once installed, Tabli adds an icon next to Chrome's main menu. Clicking it shows all open tabs in a convenient list. Simply clicking the tab name brings it to the foreground, or you can close it by clicking its close button. If the tabs are too many to locate with the mouse, Tabli offers a simple search box where you type a partial name. Another important function of Tabli is storing tabs in groups. The save option (in the form of an unchecked box) appears when you hover over the first name in the 'Current Window' list. If you check that box, it will ask for a reference name, and the rest is just clicking on it, opening all linked tabs without entering their addresses.
As expected, Tabli has several keyboard shortcuts (that depend on the Ctrl key as a modifier), and each of the stored tab groups is also saved as bookmarks in the corresponding section of the browser. The only weak point of Tabli is that it is only available for Chrome, but I am sure its users will appreciate it.
