Thanks to an elaborate learning system, Tako is a video game for learning Japanese on mobile devices. Entirely in Spanish, we'll detail the different modes this app offers for learning hiragana, katakana and kanji, as well as basic pronunciation.
A couple of years ago, we recommended a kanji dictionary (and also Japanese in general) oriented to learning. And since it never hurts to expand the different ways of learning, today we present a very interesting one with Learn Japanese with Tako, a video game for learning Japanese. This mobile app, entirely in Spanish, is very fun and novel for learning hiragana, katakana and kanji, along with basic pronunciation. In fact, it uses some of the same practice methods as other Japanese learning apps, but here it is framed with cute animations of two octopuses, known as tako in Japanese. One is the old master and the other is the young one learning and practicing (a clear representation between the app and the user).
Learning Modes
When you start Learn Japanese with Tako, you have several different learning options: Play, Study, Minigames and Learn readings. The Play Mode basically encompasses the other three options; you can choose between hiragana, katakana or different kanji levels to study. While studying kanji, you'll practice writing, reading (combining them with hiragana and katakana), learning the Chinese and Japanese readings, and playing minigames that reinforce learning through recognition and matching. The best part of each lesson is that it forces you to go through each learning mode: writing, pronunciation, reading/recognition and review with challenges and minigames.
The Study Mode lets you choose any character from the three sets (hiragana, katakana or kanji) and practice writing that character as much as you want. You can also listen to the pronunciation of the character in this mode. Finally, the Minigame Mode lets you play any of the games that appear during Play Mode. Each game lasts five rounds. The only downside is that the app only provides the Noken 5 level of the official Japanese exam (JLPT), which is the most basic level.
