It is getting more and more complicated to write about the next installment of the Terminator franchise. The previous trailer revealed very important details, and even then it seemed like madness… but the second trailer takes the story to a more than absurd level. In essence, it is a massive spoiler of three minutes in which almost everything we had assumed goes down the drain, and adds an unexpected antagonist to the robotic chaos.
Let's see: Skynet launches the nuclear missiles, and almost ends humanity. What little remains becomes the resistance, and with John Connor at the lead, they begin to win the war. At that point, Skynet develops time-travel technology and sends one of its Terminators to 1984 to assassinate John Connor's mother, alter history, and traverse the future without human rivals. The resistance sends Kyle Reese to protect Sarah Connor from that Terminator, and he becomes John's father, so the only thing Skynet achieved by sending the Terminator is to ensure the existence of its enemy. This is, roughly, what happens in the first movie.

With Genisys in the equation, Kyle Reese travels to the past and finds a version of Sarah Connor armed to the teeth and with a T-800 as bodyguard. Apparently, Skynet added another trip, sent a T-800 to kill Sarah when she was a little girl, but another T-800 (her current bodyguard) reprogrammed by the resistance managed to save her. The problem becomes more serious because now it's a T-1000 that travels to 1984, and we have a huge fight ahead, right? No! There's more! On one hand, the new trailer shows Sarah talking to a version of her son who is eight or ten years old, meaning she somehow managed to travel to the future, and on the other, the futuristic version of John Connor appears with a suit and a scar... who turns out to be a Terminator.
Alright, I'm throwing in the towel. I surrender. On July 10 (release in Spain) I'll be at the cinema door to see... whatever this movie is, and try to figure out why John Connor is now a hybrid Terminator and whether he wants to kill the mother, the father, or both. One thing is certain: the spoiler paid off. Within less than 24 hours, the second Terminator Genisys trailer has accumulated almost five million views just on its official channel. If this reboot manages to land on its feet, we'll be talking about it for months.
