ImageTagWPF
ImageTagWPF is one of the most useful photo tagging programs on the list. The environment comes with predefined tags (food, GIF, nature, news, etc.), but allows you to create custom tags. From its interface you can add a single image or an entire folder. If you select many photos, thumbnails will be shown and you only have to select the images and associate the tags. From the Tags tab, you can create and save tags; from the Image Tagging tab, you can select an image and associate it with a tag; and from Image Explorer, you can set tags as search filters. The program is available for Windows operating systems.
SunlitGreen Photo Manager
SunlitGreen Photo Manager is a simple image tagging program that lets you add tags and properties to photographs, taking a reference image. The first thing you have to do is create a custom album. Then you can add a folder of photos to that album, and when you select one or more photos, on the right side of the interface you will get all the tools for tagging. Available for Windows.
iTag Photo Tagging
iTag Photo Tagging is a very good image tagging program. Its free version allows you to add three tags to a single photograph. The platform also allows you to add title, description, creator, copyright, etc. The environment has two modes: Editing and Searching, which help you edit photo tagging and search for images on your computer. The platform has other provisional functions (sort images, group, and Zoom effect) that you can activate in its commercial version. It only works on Windows.
FastPhotoTagger
FastPhotoTagger is one of the fastest and simplest platforms for adding metadata to a photograph. Some of the utility's functions are: set one or several tags to multiple photos, set individual images to have unique tag values, display all metadata in one image, compare and edit all metadata in multiple images, choose the tagging fields to work with (EXIF, XMP, IPTC, etc.), define abbreviations for frequently used tag values, and view photos and slideshows as subtitle values. The program is available for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.
Shotwell
Shotwell is a powerful image organizer that has a very good hierarchical tagging option that can be read by other programs. Shotwell is available for GNOME 3.
