The web changed many things forever, and one of them is book distribution. No matter how specific the title, you can probably find a digitized copy online. Regardless of their license terms, sites to download free books keep multiplying, and today we want to share a list with some of the best.
Amazon
Why reinvent the wheel? I understand many users aren't comfortable with the DRM in this ecosystem, but the number of free titles (in different languages) that Amazon offers is too big to ignore. Plus, there's no shortage of spontaneous deals placing very eye-catching titles at one euro or less.
Archive.org
The fabulous project in charge of backing up the web also has a giant database dedicated specifically to ebooks, and with a couple of clicks we can apply a wide range of filters to improve our searches. At the time of writing, Archive.org offers more than 280,000 free books in Spanish (over 31 million texts), and if you don't want to download them, you can read in the browser.
Lectulandia
Lectulandia stands out not only for the large number of books in its index, but also because it doesn't ask users for any kind of registration. There are almost 80,000 texts at your disposal, with more than 30,000 authors. Now, we're aware that Lectulandia can be a bit tricky to navigate, but we've already shared an article with a sort of “step-by-step” so you can reach its PDFs without any hiccups.
Libroteca
Libroteca is a classic with more than 37,000 books in its database. Locating ebooks available in Spanish is a bit harder, but not impossible. Personally, I recommend starting with the most-downloaded list, full of unmissable classics. We also recommend exploring the documents section, in case you need texts with a more technical profile. Sometimes the site performs very slowly. Patience.
Librospdfgratis.org
Its name says it all. At the top you'll find eleven categories in total, but when you enter the books section you'll see the rest below and to the right. There's plenty of material to explore, with a certain emphasis on Spanish. The only problem is its download process. Some books will make you go through two, even three redirect links before reaching the PDF. Read its tutorial and tread carefully.
Lektu
Like Amazon, Lektu is an online store with a section dedicated to downloading free books. You should create an account before proceeding, but Lektu rewards that hassle with the absence of DRM and broad compatibility across different devices. There are more than 1,600 entries in the free section, and I think it's worth a look.
