Sometimes it's necessary to shift our attention to another format, and that's when the radio appears. Thanks to the magic of the Internet, you can go far beyond what local stations broadcast, and today we're going to review some of the main portals that collect online radio streams.

In an era of unprecedented hyperconnectivity and interactivity, it's not strange to look for something simpler like a radio or a podcast. Digital fatigue exists. Official streaming services are essentially sandboxes that change their rules at any moment, most YouTubers are unbearable, and while Netflix solves very serious problems, it also deepens others, even if that's not its intention (for example, geographic restrictions).

Radio has been synonymous with companionship for decades. Many people turn it on just to have it in the background, or place it under their pillow as an 'aid' when sleeping. Smartphones and tablets have a much more complex role, but nothing stops them from filling that role too. All we need is a good online radio site that allows us to locate stations easily, and today we're going to share five.

InternetRadio

The InternetRadio portal is one of the simplest in terms of aesthetics, but that doesn't take away its robustness. It has more than 23,000 registered stations, all divided into dozens of categories. Each entry includes detailed information (bitrate, website) and alternative playback formats, in case you want to use an external program.

TuneIn

The first time we talked about TuneIn was in 2011 when we highlighted its potential for integration in BMW cars. Today TuneIn is a complete online radio platform with a wide selection of radio stations and podcasts, and its results have a certain emphasis on local offerings; however, only a few extra adjustments are needed to expand our reach.

AccuRadio

AccuRadio is a true classic, with 20 years of activity. Technically it doesn't offer conventional live radio, but rather a series of channels full of very good content. The homepage publishes the most popular genres, and a couple of 'Featured' related to recent events and holidays. With just one click I found David Bowie, and that's an automatic 'pass' in my book.

RadioGuide.fm

Despite what its name suggests, RadioGuide.fm delivers AM and FM radio results. Its database is divided into ten main genres (42 in total), or we can search for stations by country. Below each entry we'll see which are the most listened to radios, and although not all streams work (don't forget to try alternative links), the abundance of content is so great that it's a minor inconvenience.

Radio Garden

Radio Garden separates itself from the rest thanks to its formidable interface. The portal offers an experience reminiscent of the classic shortwave band. Tuning a radio requires physically locating it on the map, and when the density of stations is very large, they all appear detailed on the right side of the screen. Highly recommended.
