We're getting closer and closer to the release of Mortal Kombat X, and this time new gameplay details have been revealed, with a few surprises in store. Don't miss the trailers featuring the new characters, game modes, and the return of brutalities in Mortal Kombat X!
The Brutalities Are Back
The Mortal Kombat series is famous for the Fatalities found in every installment. The winning fighter performs a final move on the rival, dealing a brutal and morbid execution that varies with each character. Over the course of the series, different types of Fatalities have been included, and among them the Brutalitys (brutalities) stand out. Brutalities first appeared in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, where the player attacks the opponent with a series of kicks and punches until the victim ends up exploding, with pieces of flesh and bones flying around the whole stage. Although they weren't very popular, since they were very hard to pull off, the brutalities will be back in Mortal Kombat X.
As can be seen in the video, the brutalities in Mortal Kombat X are very different from what we saw in previous games. To begin with, we'll be able to perform more than a hundred brutalities that vary with each character thanks to the wide variety of moves we can execute. The result is the same: a series of combos that end with a final move that executes the rival. But that's not all: the new trailer for the story mode revealed the presence of new characters in Mortal Kombat X: Kung Jin (Kung Lao's cousin), Takahashi Takeda (Kenshi's son), and Jacqueline Briggs (Jax's daughter).
New Game Modes and a Comic Prequel
Among the new modes are Living Towers, a variant of the classic Tower Challenge from previous Mortal Kombat games, where the fight conditions keep changing constantly, and Faction Wars, an online mode where players can join one of the five clans, such as the Black Dragon or the Lin Kuei, and compete in battles to gather as many points as possible and win special prizes. As an interesting detail, we recommend the new comic series that DC Comics released as a prequel to Mortal Kombat X, to get in the mood for this new game. Mortal Kombat X is being developed by two studios: NetherRealm Studios for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and High Voltage Software for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows. The game will be available starting April 14, 2015.
