... what's happening? Are you worried about the advance of that thing? Relax, it's not one of ours. If it were, no one would remember it, or we'd pass it off as a simple flu. Believe me when I tell you that the Foundation keeps much worse things, and when it comes to attracting real bugs, well... some think we've managed to contain their god. Rats, flies, cockroaches, spiders, ants, worms, even scorpions... no matter where it goes, a cloud of pests follows it. I suppose your stomach is ready for this, right...
Containment
We keep it in a 5x5 cell, with a floor made of grate and connected to a vacuum system. Everything that tries to get close to it is sucked in and incinerated, unless the lab people need to do a necropsy. We monitor its movements and actions, we prevent it from trying to take its own life... it tried several times. It has also been vaccinated against every conceivable pathogen transmitted by those things, but after the last incident, we've learned to keep some distance. No one of Level 4 or higher can come within 200 meters.
The Anomaly
In reality, the subject (designated 027-2 in the file) is nothing more than a carrier, a host for the phenomenon SCP-027. And at the same time... it's a victim. It has no control whatsoever over the insects, and the wildest specimens don't hesitate to attack it, as well as the personnel who try to approach. No matter which direction it moves, there will always be a cloud of flies and mosquitoes around it, forming within minutes. If it stays still in one place, everything that can approach it will: Spiders, cockroaches, rats, worms, fleas, ticks... there's no limit. Only if it decides to keep moving will they start to disperse, but some pests will accompany it... permanently.
We don't know exactly where it comes from, or why it attracts those creatures. In fact, we don't even know what SCP-027 is. Spirit? Curse? Physical phenomenon? Your hypotheses are as good as mine. We only know one thing for sure: SCP-027 transfers. With the death of the host, it automatically begins to seek a new one, but we don't know the selection parameters. In the lab, they suggest that SCP-027 has 'jumped' from one person to another for hundreds of years.
Discovery
We found him in the '90s while he was occupying a warehouse that had been completely overrun by rats and cockroaches. At that time, the host was a middle-aged man, 30 or 40 years old at most, gaunt, dirty, and covered in every bite, sting, and scratch you can imagine. He also showed signs of mental deterioration, sleep deprivation, and drug and alcohol abuse.
The subject died shortly after. The autopsy revealed that 70 percent of his body had been colonized by rats, using his abdomen as a central nest for dozens of generations. Within less than a week, one of our security agents began complaining about breathing problems. The doctors found a huge fly in his nose, which had also begun to lay eggs.
A New Host
That agent is our new 027-2. The only thing he has told us is that he feels scared, confused, and dirty... with the need to shower all the time. A strange itch runs across his body, as if a large number of bugs were walking on his skin. And we can't help him. We don't understand enough, and maybe we never will. We can only keep him away from insects, and from any future host... until he dies and the cycle begins again.
