If you are a politician, economist, millionaire businessman or simply famous, the World Economic Forum in Davos most likely opens its doors for you. Beyond whatever value those meetings may or may not have, concentrating the world's mega-elite in one place enables some very strange possibilities, and one of them is the collection of genetic material.
An Unusual Auction
On the upcoming 20th of February, the EARNE$T team will launch an unusual auction of objects recovered during the 2018 edition of the World Economic Forum. These objects will be divided into three categories:
- Utensils (forks, knives, spoons and glasses with fingerprints and residual genetic material)
- Consumables (sanitary items, paper cups and cigarette butts)
- Biological samples (hair, fluids and fibers obtained in different rooms)
Those interested will be able to gain unprecedented access to the genetic and personal characteristics of some of the most powerful people in the world, including their natural potential, weaknesses associated with disease development, diets, medication use, substance abuse, and much more.
Of course… they will have to pay for the privilege. Basically, sums of $3,000 are expected for a cigarette butt, more than $7,000 for a discarded paper cup, and around $65,000 for a glass.
A Protest Against Surveillance Capitalism
From a certain point of view, EARNE$T organizes this auction as a kind of protest against the so-called "Surveillance Capitalism", and expects a visceral reaction from the economic and political elite, but at the same time, it only confirms the process of dehumanization we are going through. If a fork with the DNA sample of a politician is worth thousands of dollars while there are people working for pennies and falling daily into the meat grinder, then there is something very wrong with the world...
