A decision that humanity refuses to negotiate is choosing its poisons, and by far one of the most popular is tobacco. Health experts wage a titanic battle against the tobacco industry and its firepower. Despite the enormous number of studies confirming the harmful effects of tobacco consumed in many ways, some people need a more compelling demonstration, and that is the goal of Chris Notap with his artificial lung.

On the other side of the pond, different events have reignited (once again) classic debates such as drug use and gun ownership, but the US CDC reports that 480,000 people die each year from cigarettes, of which 41,000 are classified as "passive smokers". If we consider that boiling tobacco leaves in water turns the liquid into an insecticide, that gives us an idea of the plant's toxicity.

However, tobacco-based products are far from disappearing, beyond the campaigns and greater availability of information. On the other hand, there are always those who say "I have been smoking for decades without problems". Tobacco does not kill every person who consumes it, that is true, but its aftereffects are very powerful. If someone needs a visual reference, they can start with these videos.

The effect of tobacco in videos

The channel of Chris Notap on YouTube is known for his hacks and tricks using various objects, but in early September he created an artificial lung to evaluate the impact of a pack of cigarettes consumed in one day. Basically, every piece of the lung was covered with a brown and oily film.

The cotton balls acquired the same brown tone with just twenty cigarettes, but the video cannot convey the smell. After cleaning his GoPro camera twice, Chris could not completely eliminate the cigarette smell, and the same goes for the pump. Still not impressed? Then let's multiply the first video by thirty.

That's right, the second video shows us the effects of 20 cigarettes a day for a month. I have no other word to describe it than "disgusting". I have had to clean very dirty things in my life, but I would not touch that bell even with gloves. Although the test does not have the scientific rigor we can expect from a laboratory, that detail does not take away how impressive it is.
