A piano journey through video game history
For some time now, pianist Fabricio Vinheteiro has been delighting his audience through his YouTube channel. There you can find a wide variety of videos where he performs not only classical music but also film and anime themes. But Vinheteiro also has a gamer side, and using his piano talent, he created a magnificent recreation of the evolution of video game music. Starting with the Pac-Man intro, he recreates the music of classic games released in the 1980s such as Tetris, Super Mario Bros., and The Legend of Zelda.
But the pianist does not stop there and continues to perform music from the 1990s with themes from Sonic the Hedgehog, Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings, the real-time strategy game most played on personal computers. Master Vinheteiro makes a leap and surprises us with the theme of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the masterpiece of Rockstar Games released in 2004. From there he performs the music of more modern games like Angry Birds, Minecraft, and The Last of Us. But without a doubt, the best composition of this entire lineup is imposed with "Dragonborn", the main theme of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Finally, the video ends with a theme that suits the piano, courtesy of the indie Cuphead.
Vinheteiro has done an excellent job interpreting each of the themes of what many of us consider the best video games. From personal computers, through consoles, to mobile devices, each of these platforms has a game represented with its signature theme.
