In an alternate timeline where an asteroid never struck Earth and dinosaurs never went extinct, a teenage Apatosaurus named Arlo loses his father in a tragic accident. One day, Arlo falls into a river and is struck by a rock. As he tries to find his way back to the mountains, he befriends a small caveboy named Spot. The Good Dinosaur answers the age-old question: What would have happened if the asteroid that changed life on Earth forever had not struck the planet and the giant dinosaurs had not gone extinct? As can be seen in the trailer, the dynamic this time is between an Apatosaurus and a human, who form an unlikely prehistoric friendship as they embark on an adventure through wild lands. A curious detail is that The Good Dinosaur, along with Inside Out, marks the first time Pixar releases two films in one year.
The lead voice cast includes Raymond Ochoa (Arlo) and Jack Bright (Spot). They are joined by the voices of Jeffrey Wright, Frances McDormand, Marcus Scribner, Steve Zahn, A. J. Buckley, Anna Paquin, and Sam Elliott. Produced by Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures, the film will be directed by Peter Sohn (who contributed animation and voices to The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and WALL-E). The Good Dinosaur is scheduled for release on November 25, 2015, in theaters.
