The Hidden Text Adventure in Google.com

Google has gotten us used to hidden treasures inside its services, and games are no exception. In the past, among many other examples, we've enjoyed a Breakout hidden in Google Images as well as a Pac-Man hidden in Google Maps. There is something for everyone. Well, in recent days a new secret has been revealed: the text adventure disguised in the Console view on its search engine page. Learn here how to play with this small easter egg.

Before graphics were common in the computing world, one of the most prolific video game genres was text adventures, the predecessors of graphic adventures. Here at NeoTeo we've seen great exponents of the genre, as well as very simple engines to create them, if that's your goal. But for the case at hand, you'll need none of that. If you want to discover the hidden text adventure in Google.com, just follow these simple steps:

How to access the hidden text adventure

• First of all, you should know that this "trick" only works on Google in English. If you have it in Spanish, you must go to "Preferences", "Search settings", and check United States in "Region settings".

• After this, when returning to the main Google.com page, click on "English", where it says: "Offered by Google in:".

• Ready? Well, we're not done with the preparations. Ad blockers can interfere with the matter, so if you have one active, turn it off for a few minutes.
• Now search for "text adventure" on Google (without the quotes).
• Once the search is done, you must go to the Console: press F12 if you have Google Chrome or inspect the page with Opera, Firefox, or Edge and look for the console. Note: it doesn't work on Safari.

• If you've done everything right, the console will ask you if "Do you want to play a game?". Don't be scared, it's not the villain from the movie Saw, and write "yes". And that's it!

In this simple text adventure, you take on the role of the blue G of the Google logo. Your mission? Find the rest of the letters that make up the company's logo. Nothing too complicated, at least if you master English, since—as you'd expect—all actions must be written. Better than nothing.
