The third season of Rick and Morty has ended. While we wait for the return with the fourth season, the creators of the series gift us The Poop In My Pants, an emotional short starring the beloved Mr. Poopybutthole.
The Season 3 Finale
It's been more than a month since the finale of the third season of Rick and Morty. That season was dark and pessimistic, exploring the idea that "nothing matters" and shedding some light on the characters' motivations. After the perfect ending of episode ten, we saw the post-credits scene with Mr. Poopybutthole, who returns to apologize for not appearing in the season, as he got married and has a son. After making an ironic joke about whether we've been wasting our time, Mr. Poopybutthole says goodbye, saying we'll see him in the fourth season.
But if there's one thing we fans of Rick and Morty know, it's that the time for a return is indefinite, so the new season could take a while... or maybe not, since (if we speculate) Mr. Poopybutthole mentions that he might have a long white beard like Santa Claus for his next appearance (possibly a Christmas special).
The Short Film
In the meantime, Adult Swim's channel has just premiered The Poop In My Pants, an emotional short that shows us Mr. Poopybutthole's life. It appears to be an alternative version of the post-credits scene from the last episode of the third season. In it, Mr. Poopybutthole turns off the TV and starts looking at a photo album (titled The Poop in my Pants) while reminiscing about his life, just before going to dinner with his family.
With no dialogue, in just two minutes the creators of Rick and Morty show us the life of one of the most adorable characters in the series, in several photos that contain more than a few nods for the most purist fans to start delving into new theories. Have a tissue handy because it's very hard not to feel something while watching it.
