Ten years have passed since Koji Kabuto and his allies defeated the forces of Dr. Hell. Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Koji gave up piloting and dedicated himself to science. However, a new discovery buried under Mount Fuji will change his life forever. Ladies and gentlemen, Mazinger Z is about to turn 45 years old, and the announcement of a new animated movie is the best way to celebrate. We don't have a release date yet, but there's a teaser, and it looks great.
A Legacy of 45 Years
The great adventure of Mazinger Z began as a manga on October 2, 1972. Two months later it hit Japanese screens, and with a total of 92 episodes it settled into the minds and hearts of millions of children. Mazinger Z was so popular that its continuation was guaranteed with Great Mazinger, and over the years we've seen all kinds of spin-offs and remakes. Almost 45 years of history deserve a special celebration, and that's how we discovered that its creator, the legendary Go Nagai, is working alongside director Junji Shimizu on the development of a new Mazinger Z movie, whose teaser trailer has just taken the Web by storm:
A New Challenge for Koji
A decade after his definitive victory over Dr. Hell, Koji Kabuto stepped down from Mazinger Z to become a scientist, following the same path as his father and grandfather. Koji discovers a gigantic structure buried under Mount Fuji, and apparently he will have to make a tough decision, which could once again turn him into a hero, or present him to the world as a demon. And he won't be alone: Sayaka is still close to him, but we have no idea about the state of their relationship.
Showtaro Morikubo lends his voice to Koji, while Ai Kayano does the same for Sayaka. The new Mazinger Z movie has 3D animations, but it won't hit theaters in that format; instead, it will be 2D. And the answer is yes, the unforgettable Ichiro Mizuki, who sang the original series' theme, is part of this project. Unfortunately, the only thing we're missing is the release date. Before the end of the year, perhaps?
