After twenty-five years since its premiere, a cult series from the minds of David Lynch and Mark Frost returns. Once again under their direction, Twin Peaks returns to continue the story from where it ended and provide the answers that many fans are eagerly waiting for.
Widely considered one of the most innovative and influential series ever broadcast, Twin Peaks became a cult object among its followers. Premiered in 1990 on ABC, over two seasons we followed Dale Cooper, an FBI agent who arrives in the town of Twin Peaks to investigate the murder of a very popular local girl, Laura Palmer. As Cooper searches for Laura's murderer, the town's secrets are gradually exposed. As the old saying goes, small town, big hell.
The good times didn't last back then. Due to the low ratings of the second season, ABC decided to cancel the series after thirty episodes, leaving its followers with an inconclusive ending. To make matters worse, a year after the cancellation, a prequel film was released, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992), which explored Laura Palmer's final moments; it was not very well received by critics. But now, twenty-five years after its television premiere, Twin Peaks returns again under the guidance of its creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost.
The little that is known is that the plot of Twin Peaks will be set in current times, twenty-five years after the events at the end of the second season. This new series will consist of eighteen episodes, and many members of the original cast, such as Kyle MacLachlan (Dale Cooper), Sheryl Lee (Laura Palmer), Richard Beymer (Benjamin Horne), Dana Ashbrook (Bobby Briggs), and Mädchen Amick (Shelly Johnson), will return. Also joining the cast are Amanda Seyfried (Lovelace), Balthazar Getty (Brothers & Sisters), Robert Knepper (Prison Break), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Bailey Chase (Saving Grace) to play new characters. All episodes were written by Lynch and Frost, and each will be directed by Lynch. Twin Peaks will be broadcast on Showtime sometime in 2017.
