You keep searching for me, you keep finding me. The day and the hour don't matter… only the files. And here you are. You want more. Honestly, I don't know if I can or should stop you. Just remember: There are worse things than death in the Foundation, and if any of them catches you, you might be lost forever. You could end up mutilated, devoured alive, lost in another dimension, detained as just another SCP… or turned into an incubator, and you won't know until it's too late.
SCP-1104
Let me give you an example: SCP-1104. Its containment requires an area ten kilometers in diameter, officially designated Site-104. The exact location is classified, and anything that escapes from there with a mass greater than 10 kilograms must be exterminated via incineration, with the only exception of authorized personnel. The only way to enter and exit in one piece is using an N100 filtration system. Otherwise… your appointment with a flamethrower is guaranteed.
If you look at the file, you'll see that SCP-1104 resembles a crab. Some believe it's a chelicerate, though many here disagree with that classification. I'm no expert, but it has several similarities to spider crabs. I haven't seen one in person... fortunately.
The Larvae
However, that is barely the adult phase of SCP-1104. You see, Site-104 is covered with lava tubes that surface. The tubes expel hundreds of SCP-1104 in larval state, and depending on the weather they can travel dozens of kilometers, which is why the Foundation watches the region so closely. The larvae are very small, 0.4 millimeters, impossible to detect with the naked eye… but the worst thing that can happen to you is breathing air loaded with them.
The larvae… quickly settle into the nasal mucosa, and release H1 receptor antagonists to avoid local inflammation and the introduction of additional larvae. The process is slow, between six and eight months. All the infected person feels is occasional headaches, but SCP-1104 is growing, developing appendages that pass through the ethmoid canals… until reaching the optic nerves. At this point SCP-1104 begins to manipulate its host, exerting pressure on the nerves until it detects a source of hydrogen sulfide.
In an attempt to avoid pain and vision difficulties, the victim will do everything possible to get closer to that source, but cases of resistance have been documented. Once the hydrogen sulfide concentration is high enough, SCP-1104 projects its appendages toward the prefrontal cortex, causing its host to collapse. All that's left for SCP-1104 to do is exit the body… through the eye socket, the nose, the mouth, the cheeks… or all at once.
The Foundation has yet to document the underground life of SCP-1104 after descending to the sulfur sources. Every attempt to poison or surgically remove an adult instance of SCP-1104 only… accelerated the exit process. The worst part? In most cases, its victims do not die. The injuries to the eye socket and the rest of the face leave them in absolute impassivity, almost like vegetables.
I can see it in your eyes, and I think you've had enough for today. Before you leave, two more things: Hydrogen sulfide smells like rotten eggs, and watch out for those headaches... just in case.
