The Radeon 890M module is available in the latest generation of Ryzen AI 300 processors with artificial intelligence hardware, but since these are integrated chips, the only way to access them is via laptops or Mini PCs. Minisforum offers its EliteMini AI370, equipped with 32 GB of RAM and a terabyte of solid-state storage. Steven from the RandomGaminginHD channel received one of these computers and decided to compare its graphics power with a true classic among graphics cards, the GeForce GTX 1060...
AMD has placed a lot of emphasis on the NPU of its Ryzen AI 300 processors. The smallest model, the Ryzen AI 7 PRO 360 that debuted in October, already meets the 40 TOPS minimum that Microsoft requires for its Copilot+ features, but users have shown greater interest in the graphics virtues of these chips. The Ryzen AI PRO 360 and Ryzen AI 9 365 use a Radeon 880M iGPU (12 CUs), while the rest of the family use the Radeon 890M with 16 CUs. Thanks to the support for LPDDR5X memory at 7500 MHz, one inevitably wonders how well the 890M performs compared to dedicated cards. Steven from the RandomGaminginHD channel decided to find out in a very particular way, and that is to pit the 890M in a head-to-head with the inexhaustible Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB.
Radeon 890M vs. GeForce GTX 1060
- Assassin’s Creed Mirage, 1080p native (no upscaling) on Medium. The 890M's average framerate reaches 50.6 FPS, with a 1% of 34.3.
- Call of Duty Black Ops 6 was configured with Basic Settings, always maintaining native 1080p, and reaches 66.5 FPS with a 1% of 51.5.
- Cyberpunk 2077 requires lowering graphics to Low, but with the Radeon 890M chip it achieves 62.3 FPS, and a 1% of 47.7.
- Fortnite basically has fun at 1080p Medium, with 90 FPS average, and 70.7 in the 1%.
- Something similar happens with GTA V (1080p High, detail slider halfway, FXAA), developing 100 FPS and a 1% of 71.9.
- Red Dead Redemption 2 (textures on Ultra, everything else on low, TAA) barely managed 45.5 FPS, with a 1% of 28.1.
- And to finish, the new STALKER 2 destroyed the 890M, with 25.2 FPS on average, and a 1% of 20.6.
How did the GTX 1060 fare? Before starting, a reminder: There are four models of the 1060, but this is the original 6 GB one, and it dates back to July 2016. The 1060 was installed alongside a Core i9-14900K with 32 GB of RAM in DDR5 at 6400 MHz under dual channel, to avoid any CPU bottleneck. And looking at the numbers, the truth is it still holds its own: The 1060 wins in Fortnite, AC: Mirage, Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V, and STALKER 2, but the Radeon 890M takes a 12 FPS advantage in CoD Black Ops 6, and 5 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077. In general, they are more than decent results for an integrated graphics chip. Now we need it to appear in an accessible APU...
