When the sixth-generation iPod Nano debuted in September 2010, users immediately noticed how easy it was to turn it into a watch. Fourteen years later, the iPod is gone as a standalone device, but with the help of an accessory called TinyPod and some compatible Apple Watch models, it can return in spirit. All Apple Watch functions remain intact, but most importantly, it brings back the classic wheel and scrolling.
The main strategy of manufacturers is to offer smartwatches as complements or extensions of the traditional smartphone. Personally, I'm not convinced that's the best path for these devices, but I have to admit their specifications have improved with each generation, and that detail opens up new possibilities. That brings us to the Apple Watch: Apple's official Spain page offers three models (SE, Series 9, and Ultra 2), but there's also a wide range of alternative accessories, and one of them is making a lot of noise on the web: TinyPod.
TinyPod: An Alternative Form Factor for the Apple Watch
Now, some skeptics might say that the TinyPod is merely a secondary case for the Apple Watch, and its Lite variant (which is flexible) definitely fits that description, but the standard version is what catches our attention. With the return of the wheel, the TinyPod restores the physical scrolling sensation we remember so well. The official page explains that the process is mechanical: the wheel makes "rotational contact" with the crown, without any additional modifications.
Except for sensor telemetry, the TinyPod doesn't affect the main functions of the Apple Watch. All its apps remain, Apple Pay and Name Drop are unrestrained, and with the back exposed, the official charger works perfectly. Finally, the TinyPod will be compatible with Apple Watch versions 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, SE, Ultra 1, and Ultra 2, in sizes 40/41mm, 44/45mm, and 49mm. It's expected to be available during the northern hemisphere autumn, with a price of $79.99 for the standard edition and $29.99 for the TinyPod Lite.
