An anime-style film based on the eponymous manga by Junji Ito, the master of Japanese body horror. I rewatched it recently, excited by some very fun plays of the game World of Horror, which I wrote about two years ago, and it really remains quite shocking. What is it about? An infestation of fish that grow insect legs and come out of the sea to eat and infect people. Just like that. The protagonists are a group of friends on vacation. Does it do justice to the original work? And no... Ito's stroke and style are unique, and these stories are better told from the panels of a manga. Still, it's a very good animated film, and a rather unique one too. If you don't want to watch the anime, I don't blame you, though I would recommend you download the manga (here it is complete) and devour it in one bite.
